What Robola actually is
Robola is a white grape grown almost exclusively on Kefalonia. It ripens on the steep limestone slopes above Argostoli, on the Omala plateau and around Mount Ainos, where the roots dig into stone to find water. The result is a bone-dry white with citrus, white peach, a whisper of honeysuckle and a distinctly stony, almost saline finish. It is the taste of the mountain in a glass.
Robola of Cephalonia carries a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), which means every bottle labelled as such must be grown and vinified on the island. That's why you rarely see it outside Greece — most of the harvest stays here, in the shops and tavernas of Kefalonia.
The three labels we stock
We keep the selection small on purpose and only work with producers we know well.
Robola of Cephalonia (Cooperative) is the classic reference bottle — the wine most Kefalonians grew up with, honest and precise, made from grapes across the island's growers.
San Gerasimo, named after the patron saint of Kefalonia, is a little rounder and more approachable — the bottle we most often recommend for someone tasting Robola for the first time.
TRUTH Robola BIO is our organic option, farmed without chemical inputs. It has a bit more texture and a slightly richer nose, and it's the one to pick if you want the purest expression of the terroir.
What to drink it with
Robola is built for the Ionian table. Serve it cold — around 8–10°C — with grilled fish, octopus with olive oil and vinegar, sea urchin, taramasalata, fresh feta, or a plate of Kefalonian meat pie. It also holds up beautifully to lemony risottos and simple roast chicken. Skip the heavy sauces; let the wine breathe.
Taking a bottle on the plane home
You cannot carry wine in cabin baggage above 100 ml, but a wrapped bottle in checked luggage travels fine on any flight leaving EFL. If you prefer not to check a bag, ask us — for orders of a few bottles we can arrange sealed protective packing, and for larger orders we work with couriers that handle wine properly. Come by the shop or message us on WhatsApp before you fly and we'll have everything ready.
